At the end of our 20s, our body’s ability to produce as much hyaluronic acid and collagen as possible begins to decline, leading to a gradual decrease in lip volume. It then thins and changes in shape and structure.

Loss of lip volume is associated with:

Less fullness

Dehydration - fine lines on the lips

Unspecified lip line

Smoking wrinkles - whether you smoke or not

The lack of symmetry in the form of the lip becomes more apparent

The upper lip will be flatter and appear longer

The Cupid's Arch may disappear

The red color of the lip decreases

We can’t stop aging, it’s natural, it’s completely normal and it happens to all of us. But we can help the process, slow it down, and get the most out of what we have.

What doesn't help your lips:

Sun-bathing

Smoking

Inflammation / oxidative stress

Dehydration

Lack of vitamins and minerals

Here are some tips you can do at home to keep your lips healthy and beautiful:

Hydrate your body, drink two liters of plain water a day

Keep your skin hydrated locally, use balm if you need it.

Eat a fresh, varied diet to maintain your immunity and keep inflammation low.

Protect your lips from sunlight, protect your face with sunscreen and / or use a special lip product.

What other options are available for lip treatment?

One of the most popular clinical procedures is lip filling with dermal fillers, in which a gel (mostly hyaluronic acid) is injected into / around the lips to hydrate and replace lost volume and structure. These results show a very natural effect.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps hydrate and firm the skin. The synthetic form of this ingredient is used in certain brands of injectable cosmetic treatments called dermal fillers.

While hyaluronic acid injections have been used cosmetically for the treatment of wrinkles and other anti-aging treatments, they are also approved by the FDA to increase lip volume.

Hyaluronic acid cosmetic treatments can have the following benefits for the lips:

Fuller lips

When performed by a licensed and experienced professional, hyaluronic acid lip injections are designed to make your lips fuller and more youthful. These fillers can also help redefine the edge around the lips, improving their overall shape.

Wrinkle removal

Hyaluronic acid lip injections can also be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth. HA is especially useful for perioral lines (smoking wrinkles) that run vertically around the mouth as well as for smile lines.

Immediate results

The effect of hyaluronic acid injection is seen immediately after treatment. This can be appealing to those who want fast results.

It is important to inform your provider of any underlying medical condition before receiving a hyaluronic acid filler. This procedure may not be appropriate if:

have blood clotting problems

smoke

you have diabetes

you are currently taking immunosuppressive medications

undergoes active oral herpes infection

pregnant or breastfeeding

Even good candidates for HA lip injection may experience side effects from this cosmetic procedure. Talk to your healthcare professional about all possible risks before starting treatment.

Hyaluronic acid filler injection procedure

Before the procedure, your service provider may recommend that you stop taking certain medicines and supplements, such as blood thinners. In addition, a “map” of the lip area is created to help plan the identification of specific injection sites.

You can expect the following steps during HA lip filling:

First, the provider cleans your lips with an antibacterial solution.

To reduce pain during and after the procedure, the service provider uses a local anesthetic.

Once the anesthetic is absorbed into the skin, the provider will begin the injection process. After each injection, the site is quickly massaged and, if necessary, additional solution is injected.

You and your provider will evaluate the results before removing any pre-procedure markings on your lips.

Before you leave, your provider may give you ice to put on your lips.

The whole process takes just a few minutes and you can resume most of your normal activities after the meeting. Depending on your comfort level, you may return to work immediately after treatment. But you should avoid intense physical activity for 48 hours.

Does hyaluronal lip filler injection hurt?

Most hyaluronic acid lip fillers contain lidocaine, which helps reduce pain during the injection process. Depending on the brand, each syringe may contain 20 mg / ml HA and 0.3 percent lidocaine. As a precaution, the service provider may apply a numbing agent to their lips in advance.

To reduce pain and swelling after the injection, your provider will recommend an icy or cold compress on your lips.

How long do hyaluronic lip filler injections last?

The effect of HA injections is temporary and you will need regular maintenance treatments at least every 6 months to maintain results. However, the exact time varies, some people need maintenance treatment earlier than 6 months. In other cases, treatment may take up to 12 months.
